Her flatmate's moved out, she's closed her heart to love and she's been put in charge of the school original Christmas show – with zero musical ability.
Disgraced superstar, Ray Stone is in desperate need of a quick PR turnaround. Waking up from a drunken stupor to a class of ten-year-olds snapping pics and Emily looking at him was not what he had in mind.
Ray needs Emily's help to delete the photos, and she needs his help with the show. As they learn to work together they may just open their hearts to more than a second chance...
My thoughts
This was a book I started around Christmas last year and due to other commitments and time constraints it was carried over into January this year. This is a gentle seasonal romance set around Christmas by Mandy Baggot.
Telling the story of Emily a primary school teacher who is on a mission to produce the School Christmas play despite very little experience with music, etc. Emily is a well liked teacher by both her pupils and her colleagues. Her personal life however is a completely different matter, she is now living alone as her flatmate has moved out and she's single too.
Ray Stone is a talented superstar singer with issues, he has a drinking problem and his popularity has waned recently. He is looking for ways to improve his current situation, yet some of his issues are down to a problem with his voice which needs surgical intervention to resolve, this in itself is causing him other issues that are turning him to the drink in order to escape life.
As their paths cross, can they both help one another to deal with all that life has in store for them?
This was a gentle romance that was a perfect way to escape from our day to day life into the lives of the characters in this seasonal read. I enjoyed reading the gentle romance that appeared to blossom between Emily and Ray, as they both helped one another cope with what life was throwing at them both professionally and personally.
An excerpt from the book.
This excerpt reminded me of a tree that I have, unlike this tree mine is black with mirrors as opposed to black and silver mine also sits on a small table, the smallest table out of a nest of tables.
Approx. 10%, location 673.
' 'No,' Emily said, leaping up off the sofa and almost knocking over the black and silver tree Jonah had pitched on the lamp table. It was very Habitat and she wasn't sure how she felt about it.
Whilst the excerpt may not be interesting to many people, it was of interest to me.
