Girl in the Dark by Anna Lyndsey

From Goodreads

Anna was living a normal life. She was ambitious and worked hard; she had just bought an apartment; she was falling in love. But then she started to develop worrying symptoms: her face felt like it was burning whenever she was in front of the computer. Soon this progressed to an intolerance of fluorescent light, then of sunlight itself. The reaction soon spread to her entire body. Now, when her symptoms are at their worst, she must spend months on end in a blacked-out room, losing herself in audio books and elaborate word games in an attempt to ward off despair. It was during this period she began to write this book.

My thoughts

I gave this a 4 stars or 8/10.

This is an unusual book it tells about the life of Anna and those around her as she began to develop a reaction to light in all it's forms and strengths.  Learning to live her life in the dark with little or no light at all must have been really hard and I can only imagine the thoughts that must have gone through her mind, as she came to terms with a life changing condition.  With little or no idea of why she began to develop this condition, she made the best that she could out of the situation that she found herself living in.

I quite enjoyed this book and I am so glad that I cam across it at my local Library.  Anna had no idea if she would ever recover from this condition or whether it was something that she was going to have to come to terms with.  None of us know what is round the next corner and we must all learn to live life for today, as tomorrow might turn out to be the day that our life changes and not always for the better.

This would make a great reading group read in my opinion.
