The Shadow Man by Helen Fields

From Goodreads

The brand new crime thriller from the bestselling author of the Perfect series – Helen Fields is back with her first stand-alone novel!

He collects his victims. But he doesn’t keep them safe.

Elspeth, Meggy and Xavier are locked in a flat. They don’t know where they are, and they don’t know why they’re there. They only know that the shadow man has taken them, and he won’t let them go.

Desperate to escape, the three of them must find a way out of their living hell, even if it means uncovering a very dark truth.

Because the shadow man isn’t a nightmare. He’s all too real.

And he’s watching.

Helen Fields is back with a heart-pounding new book, perfect for fans of Cara Hunter and Stuart MacBride.

My thoughts

Having already read and enjoyed the first in the D.I. Callanach series (that some may know as the Perfect series), I was tempted by this one the minute I saw it and grabbed a copy from BorrowBox the lending side of my local Library.  The Shadow Man is a standalone thriller by this Author.

I gave this a 4 or 8/10.  It's a great read, with some heart stopping moments of tension where you want the poor victims to beat The Shadow Man in the nicest possible way.  To get away from the harm and torture that he enjoys inflicting on them as his captives.  Helen Fields has obviously got quite a sick mind and I mean that in the nicest of ways, due to the scenes that she portrays in her books.

The Shadow Man has a family, he has Elspeth and Meggy to care for and it's not long before he adds to his family with Xavier.  The members of his family are wary of him and I can't say that I blame them at all.

To find out what The Shadow Man has in store for his captives Elspeth, Meggy and Xavier, you will need to grab a copy and step inside the pages of The Shadow Man and enter the warped mind of the Author.
