How it all started…
One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expired.
Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—-dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.
Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her.
The dark, passion it becomes…
Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, allof which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.
All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

My thoughts
Thanks to the Publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review. A 6/10 from me.
Sara is a teacher with a neighbour, with a storage unit that had been bought on a whim in a storage unit auction. A chance find of some journals among the contents of the storage unit that she was helping to empty, brought out the inquisitive side of her. Upon reading the journals a new erotic side to her is awakened, and she is soon wishing that what was happening to the lady in the journals was happening to her instead.
When Sara fnds out who the journals belong to, she soon wants to know more about Rebecca and goes off in search of her in an attempt to reunite the journals with their rightful owner. On visiting the Art Gallery where Rebecca worked, she finds that Rebecca is missing and before long Sara finds herself taking Rebecca's job on for the summer while she is on summer break from school.
All anyone knows is that Rebecca has gone away, but no one knows where to, and they don't appear to be worried. Sara is worried though due to the darker erotic nature of the journals and what Rebecca was going through as they infer that she was into BDSM.
Mark Compton the Gallery owner is controlling in his own way and there is an underlying tension that Sara can't quite put her finger on. Is he one of the men in the journal?
Chris Merit, is an artist his work is displayed in the Gallery. A chance meeting with him at one of the Gallery functions, leads to more questions for Sara to mull over.
There is an underlying tension between Mark and Chris, who are both alpha males after the quarry/prey. Is Sara who they both have their eyes set on? If she is which one will she go for, if any?
I thought the premise of the story was a good one, we have the fact that Rebecca is missing as an added extra to the normal run of your mill erotic series.
I was sucked in by the characters and every time I put the story down, I did so reluctantly. I enjoyed the relationship between the three main characters and look forward to seeing how they evolve in the next stories in the series.
As with a lot of series there are secrets that we find out about the characters, that make them tick in certain ways.
Will we find out what has happened to Rebecca as we read on I wonder.
A few minor niggles though. I did get rather fed up with Chris keep telling Sara that he was not for her, over and over and over. I also found it odd how quickly Sara became embroiled in Rebecca's life.
All that said I will be reading more of the series and have the next one reserved at my local Library.
