Beacon 23 (#1 - 5) by Hugh Howey

From Goodreads

For centuries, men and women have manned lighthouses to ensure the safe passage of ships. It is a lonely job, and a thankless one for the most part. Until something goes wrong. Until a ship is in distress. In the 23rd century, this job has moved into outer space. A network of beacons allows ships to travel across the Milky Way at many times the speed of light. These beacons are built to be robust. They never break down. They never fail. At least, they aren't supposed to.

My thoughts

This is another that I grabbed from Kindle Unlimited.  I have to confess that I do have a liking of stories written by Hugh Howey and this was no different.

This isn't an overly long story that was split into 5 parts and may at some point have been available separately, this was the complete novel that I read in one go.  It tells the story of a man stuck on a lighthouse in space, trying to man the lighthouse and ensure safe travels for other space travellers.  This man has issues and would have been better among others as he may not have had time to dwell on his past as much as he did while being on his own.

I enjoyed the story and was keen to find out what happened to him and the others involved in the story.
