Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most.
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up — she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan — her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
My thoughts
Colleen Hoover is a prolific and best selling author of books aimed at YA, women's fiction and paranormal romance. This is the first book that I have read by her and I grabbed a copy of it from BorrowBox the digital lending side of my local Library.
I really enjoyed this story of Lily, her first love Atlas and Ryle her new beau. As the relationship between Lily and Ryle develops, she finds herself thinking about Atlas. As a chance meeting with Atlas happens, Lily finds that what she has with Ryle becomes a little strained and she begins to wonder about her current relationship as events occur that she would never have expected to happen. In some ways it's like history repeating itself when her relationship with Ryle begins to mirror the relationship that her parents had. Will things remain the same between her and Ryle or will life take a turn that she hadn't expected to happen?
I look forward to reading more books by this Author and I already have a reservation against It Stays with Us, which continues on with this love triangle story. If this book is anything to go by then I will be in for a treat with the next book and any others that I decide to read. As this one I found to be well written and kept me engaged as I was reading it.
