The Midnight Library by Matt Haig

From Goodreads

Between life and death there is a library.

When Nora Seed finds herself in the Midnight Library, she has a chance to make things right. Up until now, her life has been full of misery and regret. She feels she has let everyone down, including herself. But things are about to change.

The books in the Midnight Library enable Nora to live as if she had done things differently. With the help of an old friend, she can now undo every one of her regrets as she tries to work out her perfect life. But things aren’t always what she imagined they’d be, and soon her choices place the library and herself in extreme danger.

Before time runs out, she must answer the ultimate question: what is the best way to live?

My thoughts

I grabbed a copy of this from BorrowBox the lending side of my local Library to read.

I found this quite a thought provoking read.  Matt Haig is clearly making us readers think about what may happen as we near the end of our time on Earth as a living person.  I often have thoughts to myself about what things will be like if I am no longer alive, as I am sure other people have as well.

The story follows Nora as she approaches the end of her time on Earth.  She is shown alternative ways that she could have lived and how her life may have evolved if she'd chosen different options as they appeared.

I could say so much about this book, but to do so would spoil it for others.  I have read reviews form readers who didn't rate it at all, but this reader did rate it and it will be in my Top 10 of the year for sure.

'Places are places and memories are memories and life is fucking life.'  This quote is true, we only have one life it is what me make it and no one else.
