The Daughter by Liz Webb

From Goodreads

Hannah Davidson has a dementia-stricken father, an estranged TV star brother, and a mother whose death opened up hidden fault lines beneath the ordinary surface of their family life. Hannah is losing her grip on both a cache of shameful secrets and her drinking, and her habit of gorging on almost inedible quince makes it patently clear that her life is a mess.

Now the spitting image of Jen Davidson and exactly the same age she was when she died, Hannah is determined to uncover exactly what happened to her mum.

But the boundaries between mother and daughter soon become blurred and Hannah discovers that she may not win the dangerous game she’s playing.

My thoughts

My thanks to Helen Richardson for the opportunity to take part in the Blog tour of this book.  I had a copy of this from NetGalley to read, so was happy to take part in the Blog tour.

Wow what a book this was, it's hard to believe that this is a debut book.  It had me gripped from the first few chapters.  Families, secrets, suspicious deaths, tension and

I thoroughly enjoyed this psychological thriller.  I will be looking forward to see what the Author brings us next as I feel that she has quite a career in writing ahead of her if this book is anything to go on.

When Hannah's Dad is beginning to suffer from dementia she is keen to try and find out what happened to her Mum before his memory has completely disappeared.  Sadly her Mum had died years ago, at the time there was some suspicions around her death.  It wasn't sure if it was an act of suicide or for some time there were suspicions that it may have been murder.  Hannah's Dad had the finger of suspicion pointed at him, nothing was proven one way or another, but Hannah is keen to find out what happened.  Sometimes though it's better to let sleeping dogs lie, as unearthing what has been in the past can often end up having repercussions that you didn't want to happen.

This book will take you on many twists and turns as the story branches out in one direction then another.  Which branch you want to find yourself on, is the one that leads to everything being settled and all loose ends being tied up.  I know that I did have my suspicions as to what was happening and some of them were proven right, but others were barking up the wrong tree.  To find out what happened all those years ago, you need to grab a copy of this debut novel and immerse yourself in the lives of the characters.
