The Sundial by Shirley Jackson

From Goodreads

Aunt Fanny knows when the world will end....

Aunt Fanny has always been somewhat peculiar. No one is surprised that while the Halloran clan gathers at the crumbling old mansion for a funeral she wanders off to the secret garden. But when she reports the vision she had there, the family is engulfed in fear, violence, and madness. For Aunt Fanny's long-dead father has given her the precise date of the final cataclysm!

My thoughts

I grabbed this one from BorrowBox the lending side of my local library.  The reason I spotted it was that I was looking for info about a book that is newly out with a similar title Sundial, but written by someone else called Catriona Ward.  I thought why not read this one too as I am a book addict.  This is the first book by this Author that I have read and probably based on this one, I will say life is too short to read another.

This is one 0f those books that is more character driven than it is plot and action driven.  Whilst there is n0thing wrong at all with character driven books occasionally you can get lost in them and not always realise what is happening.  To me that was one of those books as I can't really remember that much about it now and I have only recently finished it.

How will the Halloran clan cope when one of them has a vision and revelation that the world will end on a specific day?  How would any of us cope with info like that?  I would assume that many of us would find that info very hard to digest.  The reactions of the Halloran's among themselves didn't surprise me at all, as they themselves were already stressed due to the situation that they were already in with being at the mansion for a funeral.  Funerals can be stressful enough for people without finding out when the world may end.
