From Goodreads

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury comes the first in a brand-new series about second chances--a dramatic story about a washed up baseball player, the love he left behind, and the miracles that might save them both. When former national baseball star Tyler Ames suffers a career-ending injury, all he can think about is putting his life back together the way it was before. He has lost everyone he loves on his way to the big leagues. Then just when things seem to be turning around, Tyler hits rock bottom. Across the country, Tyler's one true love Sami Dawson has moved on. A series of small miracles leads Tyler to a maintenance job at a retirement home and a friendship with Virginia Hutcheson, an old woman with Alzheimer's who strangely might have the answers he so desperately seeks. A team of Angels Walking take on the mission to restore hope for Tyler, Sami, and Virginia. Can such small and seemingly insignificant actions of the unseen bring healing and redemption? And can the words of a stranger rekindle lost love? Every journey begins with a step. It is time for the mission to begin...

My thoughts

I read this last year and for some reason never posted about it on my blog, so rather belatedly here is my review.

I gave this a 7/10.

My thanks to NetGalley and the Publishers for the opportunity to read this story in exchange for an honest review.

This is a Christian, religious themed story written by Karen Kingsbury. It's the first of her books that I've read and I will look out for more by her in the future. This book is also the first in the Angels Walking series.

Tyler Ames is having a hard time of it. He's made some bad choices in his life and as a result they have impacted on his baseball career, following an accident that has more than likley put an end to his career as a sportsman. He finds that the medical care he needs might not be covered by his medical insurance. As his life spirals out of control, he encounters an angel who helps steer him in certain directions.

Sami Dawson is a young woman, who Tyler loved years ago in his teens but as with most of these young true loves both parties have moved on. Tyler has never forgotten his love for Sami but his career took priority over his love life. Sami is engaged to be married but is she truly happy? Her family like him but is he who she really wants to spend the rest of her life with? Sami encounters another angel who makes her think whether life is too short to settle for someone that we aren't sure about completely.

Will Tyler and Sami ever get back together? Can the Angels Walking team help them both find what they both need out of life?

This is a very easy, gentle story about life, relationships, religion and the choices that we make along the way.

The Angels Walking team are a group of Angels whose aim is to guide us earthly beings by steering us in certain directions and giving us hope, that the choices we make might be the best ones for us and to believe in ourselves and others around us. They reminded me of Guardian Angels, which I suppose they are loosely based on. It is said that we all have a Guardian Angel watching over us, I hope mine is watching over me well, as I feel that I often have need of him/her.
