Extract from Seahurst by S.A. Harris

About the book

Evie Meyer and her son flee from her abusive partner Seth in Toronto to spend New Year with her brother Luke at their late father's summer home on the Suffolk Coast, only to find Seahurst abandoned and Luke missing.

As Evie searches for her brother, she is filled with a deepening dread that something is very wrong at Seahurst and that their father's death may not have been suicide at all. Can Evie uncover Seahurst's sinister secrets and keep Alfie safe before the souls of the dead claim yet another terrible revenge.

Seahurst by S.A. Harris was published by Salt Publishing on 15th May, 2023.

An extract from Chapter Eight

A draught nips at my ankles as I leave Luke’s room and hurry down the passage, switching lights off as I go. Alfie has left the bathroom door open and the light on. Better than total darkness on our first night. Hopefully, he’s already asleep.

Shadows leap about my room as I stop in the doorway. Alfie’s in his PJs, his duvet wrapped around him, crouched on the floor at the foot of my futon. In front of him is the huge china bowl I picked up in a junk shop decades ago, his phone torch trained on the contents of the dish.

‘You should be asleep,’ I say.

‘You’ve found the laptop charger then,’ he says glancing up at me. ‘Found it in Uncle Luke’s room just now

‘You think something’s happened to him, don’t you?’ He watches to see my reaction. I switch on the bedside lamp, put the laptop beneath it and plug in the charger.

‘Let’s hope I’m wrong about that. I’ll go for a run before breakfast,’ I say changing the subject. ‘Come with me?’ I pull on my PJ bottoms. Alfie has his back to me shaking his head. There was a time when he crazed to run with me, now he rarely does. ‘The floor is bloody freezing,’ I say, crawling into bed. ‘Lou’s right about the heating. God knows why Luke hasn’t got it running 24:7.’ I set the alarm on my mobile and look across at Alfie. There are only a few inches between our two beds.

My thoughts

I am looking forward to getting my teeth into this story, I have a copy waiting to be read.  I want to find out what has happened to Luke and why Seahurst has been left abandoned.  Keep an eye out for my review that will appear on my blog within the next few weeks.
