From Goodreads
This is the story of a murderer. A stolen child. Revenge. This is the story of Ted, who lives with his young daughter Lauren and his cat Olivia in an ordinary house at the end of an ordinary street.
All these things are true. And yet some of them are lies. An unspeakable secret binds the family together, and when a new neighbour moves in next door, the truth may destroy them all. Because there's something buried in the dark forest at the end of Needless Street. But it's not what you think...My thoughts
Well my interest in this was piqued even more when I saw that someone had posted on Twitter that she was struggling with reading this book. After chatting to her about it in a series of tweets, I realised that I had actually already reserved it from BorrowBox the digital lending side of my local Library. Having read some reviews of the book since I started reading this, it has become very apparent that you are either in the LOVE IT or HATE IT camp. I did suggest that the person struggling with this might be better off putting it to one side and going back to it, yet she had read enough to want to know more!
OMG this book will blow your mind in lots of ways. It is narrated by multiple characters, you need to keep your wits about you to remember who the perspective of the story is from as you read. I mean a character that is a talking cat is enough to make you think what the hell am I reading. As you read the story from the perspective of the talking cat that feels the need to keep Ted happy as much as she can, you do have many moments of wondering where the story is taking you. My mind was working overtime thinking I had things sussed out early on. However as the story took shape and I read more my initial suspicions were proved wrong.
There is so much that I can say about the story, but to do so would spoil it for other readers and I do not want to do that. I was in the Love it rather than Hate it camp, but I can see why others haven't liked it as much as some.
If you do come across this book and you like books that are in the horror and psychological genres then this is one that will interest you, I can recommend that you grab a copy and immerse yourself in the weird and wacky goings on between the covers.
