From Goodreads

Overwhelmed by tragedy, a woman desperately tries to save her marriage in award-winning author Jennifer Hillier's Little Secrets, a riveting novel of psychological suspense.

All it takes to unravel a life is one little secret...

Marin had the perfect life. Married to her college sweetheart, she owns a chain of upscale hair salons, and Derek runs his own company. They're admired in their community and are a loving family—until their world falls apart the day their son Sebastian is taken.

A year later, Marin is a shadow of herself. The FBI search has gone cold. The publicity has faded. She and her husband rarely speak. She hires a P.I. to pick up where the police left off, but instead of finding Sebastian, she learns that Derek is having an affair with a younger woman. This discovery sparks Marin back to life. She's lost her son; she's not about to lose her husband, too. Kenzie is an enemy with a face, which means this is a problem Marin can fix.

Permanently.

My thoughts

My thanks to the Publishers via NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review. I gave this a 4 stars or 8/10.

The disappearance of a child is every Mother's nightmare. One day in the run up to Christmas, Marin's son Sebastian goes missing while they were out shopping together. One minute he's next to her as they walk along and the next he's gone, and so the nightmare begins ...

This story resonated with me due to the fact that my son disappeared for a few minutes in the run up to Christmas when he was a similar age, we were in Finland at the time as we had taken our three children to see Father Christmas in Lapland. Fortunately, we found him and he was in tears when we were all reunited together. It was an horrendous feeling, so I can fully empathise with Marin.

I enjoyed this story and it kept me guessing. I had some suspicions about what was happening, some I was right about and others not quite so. I found that neither of Sebastian's parents were particularly likeable as they both had their secrets that connected them to others and neither of them had many redeeming characteristics if I am honest. At first I felt sorry for Marin the Mother, but she was as flawed as her husband Derek in the end. In many ways they are probably only human in the way that they were acting. I am just glad that we don't all act the same though.

I will be interested to read more books by this Author in the future.
