Savagery of the Rebel King (Thrones of Blood #4) by Nancy Kilpatrick

From Goodreads

Necros, the most rebellious of the vampir kings, has carried a burning hatred for the one who forced him into this undead existence centuries ago. Abused, betrayed, cheated, he trusts none of any species, especially Guin, a dethroned mortal queen who appears out of nowhere and feeds his paranoia, and his darkest fantasies. At best she attempts to control him, at worst she tries to kill him. For some reason he does not understand, Necros is compelled to let her live. But he believes she is manipulative, and a liar; Guin sees him as brutal, stubborn, impossible! Encounters turn ugly as violence, bitterness and haunting memories drive both of them. Guin has her own agendas, and the more she struggles to actualize them, the further away her goals recede. A few vampirii endeavor to build a bridge between the two combatants, but others with sinister plans are bent on hindering a truce. This downward-spiralling dynamic reels towards a dire conclusion that neither Necros nor Guin seem able to halt.

Savagery of the Rebel King—Vol 4 in the exciting Thrones of Blood series—is a fast-paced rollercoaster ride in a plot that twists and turns and threatens to spin out of control. Readers will be glued to their seats!

My thoughts

My thanks to TBConFB for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

This is the fourth story in the Thrones of Blood series. Each of the stories could be read as a standalone, as they all feature different main characters to a certain extent, yet several characters appear in all of the stories. This story leaves the reader on the edge of a cliff waiting for the next instalment in the series.

In the same tradition as the rest of the Vampir Kings and Queens in this series King Necros is every bit as cruel and sadistic as the rest. Guin is a Sapiens Queen sent into the Vampir Kingdom for a reason by her Mother and Grandmother, as the story evolves the reason becomes apparent. Necros is very suspicious of Guin and treats her with the contempt that he thinks she deserves.

This story like the others is definitely not for the faint hearted as there are plenty of sadistic scenes featuring violence and sexual abuse. The Thrones of Blood series is definitely not your sweet Twilight style series.

I enjoyed the story and the deepening relationship that began to develop between Necros and Guin, they just need to learn to trust one another and not be coerced by others as much. I am hoping that things will develop  nicely in the fifth story in this series and look forward to seeing what happens.

I gave this story a 4/5 stars or 8/10.
