13 Minutes by Sarah Pinborough

From Goodreads

Natasha’s sure that her friends love her. But does that mean they didn’t try to kill her?

Natasha is the most popular girl in school. So why was she pulled out of a freezing river after being dead for thirteen minutes? She doesn’t remember how she ended up in the icy water that night, but she does know this—it wasn’t an accident, and she wasn’t suicidal.

Now Natasha’s two closest friends, who are usually her loyal sidekicks, are acting strangely. Natasha turns to Becca, the best friend she dumped years before, to help her figure out the mystery.
At first Becca isn’t sure that she even wants to help Natasha. But as she is drawn back into Natasha’s orbit, Becca starts putting the pieces together. As an outsider, Becca believes she may be the only one who can uncover the truth…which is far more twisted than she ever imagined.

My thoughts

This was a local Library Reading Group read that we read a year ago almost back in 2018. I gave this a 3.5 stars or 7/10.

The Library Reading Group is not the target audience that this YA book is aimed at. The average age of the group is probably around 65 with me being the youngest at 51. However, as a group it was quite well received and faired better than a lot of the others that the group have read. I digress though and will get back to my review.

This was a novel full of twists and turns that tells the story of the relationships and so called friendships between teenage students and how they can impact on one another.

Told as a multi character led novel the back stories of the students is slowly revealed to us and proves that people can and will be mean to one another if pushed. It's very reminiscent of how peer pressure among the young works and sadly how this can all end rather badly for some.

I did enjoy this book and found that it was an easy read, that kept the reader engaged and left wanting more each time they read it.
