My thoughts

This is what I wrote about this book following having read it in 2012.  I gave it 5 stars.

I'd been looking forward to reading this new book by Linda Gillard for some time, having known that she was in some ways stepping outside her comfort zone by writing a paranormal story, thinking how best to describe certain aspects. Whilst this is a paranormal story it delves much deeper than the recent typical teenage paranormal books that have been around. Think of a well written Twilight for the more mature reader and I don't think I'm doing the story any disservice by saying that - we have several male characters and we could form an alliance to any of them and by doing so we could call it a team that we are rooting for.

Ruth has had a rough twelve months losing several family members and her lover, following the most recent death of a much loved Aunt she inherits an old run down house on the Isle of Skye that had once been her second home.

As with other stories by Linda Gillard the female lead has a choice of males and we the reader are left to choose the one that we like the most. As I said before the team that we might root for and she herself has asked this of some of her other stories in the past, which team are you?

The story has history, romance, grief, paranormal/supernatural, music and relationships intertwined in it. To say more about the story would lead us to create spoilers and personally I don't want to do that. To find out more about the story, you'll have to read it for yourself but please be prepared to set aside a good chunk of time as once you start you won't want to put it down. Fortunately I read it on a wet Sunday and the housework took a back seat.

Please read it I doubt you'll be disappointed as I know I wasn't.
