The Duke's Embrace (12 Dukes of Christmas #7) by Erica Ridley

From Goodreads

Unpaid and under-appreciated journalist Miss Eve Shelling never goes anywhere without a trusty notebook and her overprotective Duenna—who happens to be a bullmastiff. Eve learned the hard way that men are not to be trusted. She’s definitely not falling head-over-heels for the deceptively charming subject of her front-page column.

Local blacksmith Monsieur Sébastien le Duc is the pillar of his community—when he’s not pillaging elsewhere. He’s a rakish dandy with a heart of stolen gold and two teeny tiny secrets. One happens to be a wee international smuggling operation. The other involves losing his heart to an ambitious journalist determined to expose the truth at any cost…

My thoughts

I gave this a 3.5 stars or 7/10. My thanks to the Publishers via NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.

The 12 Dukes of Christmas of which the Duke's Embrace is #7, is a series of stories that are all set in Cressmouth a fictional village or small town.  The stories are linked with occasional returning characters in the different stories.

The Duke's Embrace tells the story of Miss Eve Shelling who sets about trying to find out about Monsieur Sebastian le Duc, who on the surface appears to be a pillar of the community, but all is not as it at first appears and Eve is set on discovering the secrets that surround this gentleman.  However, fate often works in mysterious ways and as the pair become acquainted fate has other plans for them.

I am really enjoying this series and they are the perfect read to immerse yourself in, to escape the stresses of real life.
