Only the Brave by Mel Sherratt

From Goodreads

When one of the notorious Johnson brothers is murdered and a bag of money goes missing, a deadly game of cat and mouse is set in motion.
DS Allie Shenton and her team are called in to catch the killer, but the suspects are double-crossing each other and Allie has little time to untangle the web of lies.
As she delves deeper into the case, things take a personal turn when Allie realises she is being stalked by the very same person who attacked her sister seventeen years ago and left her for dead.
Set over forty-eight tension-filled hours, Only the Brave is the latest gut-churning book from acclaimed author Mel Sherratt.

My thoughts

My thanks to the Publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this in exchange for an honest review.  I gave this an 8/10.

This is the third in the DS Allie Shenton series, sadly I have not read the first two, but I wish I had as I really enjoyed this one and it had me gripped from start to finish. However, it could easily be read as a standalone. If I'd read the other two, I would have had some back story and I would know what had happened to Allie's sister Karen.

Told in reasonably short easy to read chapters following the timeline from before the crime occurs and the ensuing investigation the reader is taken on a fast paced adventure. With some descriptive passages of violence and police procedural scenes you will feel as if you are right in the thick of it with them all.

I found the characters to be very believable and I felt great sympathy with some, especially due to the violent tendencies of some of the villains while trying to find out information relevant to them.

Looking forward to reading more by this Author.
