Rosemary's Baby ~ Book or Film? In this instance the film wins over the book.

Ira Levin wrote the story in 1967 which went on to become a bestseller.  The story Rosemary's Baby is a psychological horror story set in an apartment block in America.

Rosemary's Baby

From Goodreads

Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse, an ordinary young couple, settle into a New York City apartment, unaware that the elderly neighbors and their bizarre group of friends have taken a disturbing interest in them. But by the time Rosemary discovers the horrifying truth, it may be far too late!

My brief review

I read the story last year as my Halloweeen themed read but I'd seen the film many times, so I knew what the story was about before I read it.  Sadly for me the story didn't quite hit the mark in my opinion, Perhaps if I'd not seen the film before then I might have felt differently about it.  At the time I gave it a 7/10.

Last Sunday (03.11.13) I spotted that the film was on TV.  The film was written and directed by Roman Polanski and features Mia Farrow as Rosemary.  The film is very atmospheric and depicts the story well.

I usually prefer books over film versions of stories but in this case the film wins hands down.

Well worth a read if you like classically themed horror stories that are dark and atmospheric rather than grisly and gruesome.  Please read the book first so as not to be a little disappointed like I was.
